Summer Reading Club

A Universe of Stories is our summer theme in 2019.

Summer reading club is for all library users. We will have Story Time, Toddler Time, musical challenges, guest story tellers, take home activities, and reading incentives for school aged guests. Teens and Adults have separate programs and incentives. Information and full event schedules will be available after May 15th. Sign up starts June 3rd and continues through July. You must come in to sign up. 
A $2 donation is requested for each child.

GENERAL INFORMATION 2019

The Summer Reading Club is open to all people using the Carnegie Public Library in East Liverpool. Club Members are generally school-aged youth or preschoolers.
 
Club Privileges:
PROGRAMS are hosted every Wed. They will be held at the Salvation Army.  The programs last one hour with guest librarians or special events & door prizes each week. See program listing for details. Pre-schoolers should be accompanied by school aged friends or family. Others may be left. Adults must be accompanied by children.
 
COUPON GAME is done in the children’s room.You pick up a paper with a question on it. Do the activity; hand in your answer. Prize drawings on Wednesdays.
 
SPACE EXPLORATION will be held in the library community room every Thursday at 2 pm. Students age 7+ are welcome to come explore the concepts that make space travel possible with experiments and activities. Group size is limited so you must sign up to attend.

READING REWARDS are awarded to club members who complete the and hand in the READING LOG, READING CHALLENGE and the SPACE CHALLENGE.
                 SMALL PRIZES/CANDY Check out books from the library. Write your name and phone number on the back and hand it in at the check out desk to be entered in a weekly drawing. Slips left by noon on Wednesday will be entered and drawn at the 2 pm program.  
LAST DAY TO TURN IN PAPERS FOR REWARDS IS TUESDAY JULY 30TH.  This is the last day to turn in papers for rewards unless you make arrangements with Miss Kim for an extension. Star Stuff - Renae from Salem will be lighting up our afternoon with her bright ideas. Be prepared to leave with stardust in your eyes.

Shoot for the Stars - Join Columbiana Library’s  staff as they present a shining example of the things that make up our galaxy.

Wednesday, June 26          2 p.m.
Astronaut Training Camp - Get prepared to have a blast with Tracy from Lisbon. Strap yourself in for the trip of a lifetime.

Wednesday, July 3          2 p.m.
To The Moon And Beyond - It’s universally known that Noreen from East Palestine knows how to have a blast! Fling yourself to the Salvation Army and stretch the boundaries of your imagination.

Wednesday, July 10          2 p.m.
Take Me To Your Reader - Come witness Rachel from Wellsville’s meteoric rise in space knowledge as she showers us facts and fun. She will “Comet” you from all directions.

Wednesday, July 17          2 p.m.
It Came From Outer Space - Are there weird and wonderful beings beyond Earth? Let’s find out as Lindsay from Leetonia presents a program that is out of this world.

Wednesday, July 24          2 p.m.
Destination: Moon - Mad Science of Ohio will be bringing a professional program paid for by Elks Lodge 258

Wednesday, July 31         2 p.m.
Solar Quest - Carnegie Science Center - will be bringing a program that is out of this world! Sponsored by Elks Lodge 258

WEDNESDAY PROGRAMS WILL BE HELD AT THE SALVATION ARMY.

We are asking that you bring a non-perishable food item to any Wednesday program you attend. The Salvation Army is donating their space to us this summer and as a thank you, we would like to help them by donating food. The donation of food is not required to attend a program.


OTHER HAPPENINGS

*Stuffed Animal Contest
Thursday, June 1, 11a.m.

Bring a stuffed animal to the library to try for a prize! Prizes will be awarded for the Hairiest, Coolest Sound, Most Huggable, Most Colorful, Scariest, Best Dressed, Most Loved, Sportiest, Biggest, Smallest-stuffed animals registered, as well as, the Judges Choice. Prizes are awarded based on the judges' conception of these categories.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m., and will end for the judging to start at Noon. Prizes will be announced at 12:30 p.m. One entry per child. Animals can be picked up immediately after the publicity photos of the winners are taken.

 

*Escape Room Week
July 22 - 26 by appointment 9:30am - Close

Grab some family and friends to see if you can solve the clues and escape your doom in an hour.
You must have at least 1 adult (16 or older)  and 1 child (12 or under) to participate. Groups no larger than 10. Call Miss Kim for an appointment.


​*Toddler Time

For children birth to 36 months. Introduces toddlers and one care giver to the joys of language with one half hour of nursery rhymes, songs, and stories once weekly.

Program Times: Monday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. or Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Sessions run week of June 3 - July 8 
Sign up begins May 28.
 
*Preschool Story Time
For children 3-6 years old. This is 45 minutes of stories, songs, and snack once weekly. Children who are comfortable may be left in the room alone.

Story time: Monday at 11 a.m. Tuesday at 11 a.m. or Thursday at 6 pm.
Sessions run week of June 3 - July 8 and Thursday July 18
Sign up begins May 28.

 

SPACE LAB  —Thursday 2 p.m.
June 20- July 18

Come explore space with science experiment, technology, engineering, arts and math. STEAM.
This program is led by library staff. Students aged 7-up are welcome. You must sign up to attend.
Sign up each week for the following week.

 

*Pool Party 
at the Cartwright Pool/Thompson Park. Watch for changes in details on the library website.
Cost: $1/person for Summer Reading Club members and their guests
Date: Monday, July 15
Time: 1pm - 4 pm.

*Reading Log
Pick up a Reading Log or download and print it at home, color in bubbles for each day you have read. It counts the same if you are reading or someone reads to you. You can read LIBRARY books, eBooks, magazines, audiobooks or books/eBooks/magazines/audiobooks from anywhere else. I would say a reading day is a day you have read 20 minutes or more. Check Out Library Books
Put your name, and phone number and age group (child, teen, or adult) on the back of your check out slip and turn it in for a chance to win.  There will be a candy drawing every Wednesday at the 2pm program for all child slips turned in by noon that day. 

*COUPON GAME
There is a different question to be answered in the Children's Room each week. If you participate, whether your answer is right or wrong, you will be entered into a drawing for candy. Winners are drawn at the Wednesday programs.

Reading Challenge
We challenge you to read 15 books according to the paper provided. Completing the challenge will earn you a paper back book of your choosing.

Space Challenge
We challenge you to complete 8 space related activities as described on the paper provided. Completing the challenge will earn you a paper back book of your choosing.
Send up a photo of you doing one of these activities for our facebook page and earn another book.

**We will again be asking for a $2 donation at the time of sign up. This money will be used entirely to defray the cost of the on going summer programming. Additional donations will be happily accepted. Arrangements will be made for those unable to afford the initial expense.
